5 Quotes
to Inspire Your Heart
I just spent an amazing weekend at a conference entitled: Author 101 University. (http://bit.ly/1oJSX84). It was a great time learning about serving others through writing. There are a few key quotes that I took away from the conference that are universally inspiring.
Hope you love this list!! I’ll enjoy hearing your comments about which one(s) spoke to you.
I’ll also be inspired by your additions to this list in the comments section!
1) “The universe is not made of atoms, it’s made of stories.”
Ok fine – at the microscopic level there’s all that stuff that our unaided human eyes cannot see. What really makes life and creates our experience in this universe, however, are the stories of everyday and every person we meet. So many stories go untold or unnoticed. Just in the last two days I noticed:
* The stories of all those I saw and watched and with whom I interacted at my medical appointment. The beautiful friendly woman in the wheel chair, the mom whose young boy cried bloody murder if someone looked at him, the older man walking very tenderly. I wonder about the details of those people and their lives.
* The story about how I called my cat’s name and heard him come running into my home office to give me a meow with a lift at the end, “Yes, mamma?” Heart Sweetness (his photo is here: www.facebook.com/louannstropoli.efj)
So many stories!!! If we can simply listen long enough we may be privileged to hear what life and our collective presence in this universe is really all about.
2) “Don’t give up! Persevere! Find the right fit!”
“The rule of NEXT!”
This has been a powerful concept in my life! In many areas (ok all) I’ve had to learn and accept and get excited about the fact that “no” really just means “not yet” or “not with this person/organization”.
‘No’ really means, “there’s a better opportunity to come in the future. This ain’t it! Move on, Girlfriend!’ When the timing and location are right instead of ‘no’, ‘YES!’ will shake the ground on which you walk!”
When we hear ‘NO’, our inspired response is: ‘NEXT!’ because we know something better is yet to come. ‘No’ means ‘Yes’ – just not right now.
Here are examples of those who heard ‘no’ before hearing ‘yes’:
Jack Canfield (Chicken Soul for the Soul series):
144 publishers said NO before he found the one who said YES! The ones who said ‘no’ are now kicking themselves!!! 500 million copies printed world-wide!!!!

Abraham Lincoln:
His family was ejected from their home; He lost many political runs; He was rejected for law school; He suffered a nervous breakdown. See more here:

Bob Mankoff (Cartoonist)
He submitted 2000 cartoons to the magazine, The New Yorker. ALL 2000 were rejected before the magazine finally hired him! Here’s more about him and other folks who persisted (http://www.trendhunter.com/course/motivational-presentations)
3) “What if something is waiting for you?”
Have you ever said, I’m waiting on _________________ so that I can move/get a job/get married….etc. It seems as though we are always waiting for something.
What if a more accurate perspective is that something is actually waiting for you?
A job that is waiting for your application
A book that is waiting for you to write it
A person who is waiting for your heart to open
A moose who is waiting for you to hike Mt. Katahdin so you can marvel at his strength.
(personal note: I’m still waiting for that moose to wait for me … but I’ll keep trying!!)
There’s something waiting for you and all you need to do to find it is to keep persevering; keep seeing ‘no’ as ‘not yet’; and keep saying ‘next’ until you hear ‘YES!’
Have you recently found something that’s been waiting for you?
4) It takes an average of 66 days to change a habit!!!
Now that’s an eye opener!! We all thought it was 21 days!! Turns out more research has been done and we actually need to persevere for 2 months in order to change the brain paths that root our habits.
What habit are you trying to form in your life?
Can you commit to 66 days in order to make it happen?
5) “Don’t say anything to which you wouldn’t be willing to sign your name – NOTHING is off the record!!!”
“A closed mouth gathers no foot.”
With this I shall stop talking and close my mouth. Feet don’t always taste so good. 🙂

- Tired of Feeling Guilty? | LouAnn Stropoli - […] When you receive a ‘no’ from someone you can then move on to look for your ‘yes’ from someone…

This conference sounded great and really love all the quotes. Hearing other peoples stories is something I do all the time no matter where I am. I was at a career workshop and I felt everyone has a story to be heard and I learn something from each one of them. You have to be open to learn and be inspired by others. I can relate to find the right fit. So many of us are afraid to give up on a career, etc that just doesn’t serve us. We chase the wrong dreams, from a book I just re-read : ” When you find your place, practice begins” -DOGEN. We have to be in line with our true selves and not what others expect of us or things that might bring more financial success. Abundance comes in all packages, peace within is so important. I think life is a process and when the student is ready the teacher comes. Yes, it takes time to change a habit. Just have to be in trust and patience with the universe. A lot of inspired people had to wait against obstacles. I read Albert Einstein’s teach said he would never make much of himself and he failed in school at an early age. But he kept persisting. Thanks again so much Louann for your food for thought.

Hi Laurie,
Thank you for all your incredible insights! I so agree….. when we are open to learning and seeing and interacting, who knows what doors will open to us and what insight we will gain. and WOW!! great reminder about Albert Einstein. He didn’t fit the status quo so they thought he would be nothing. They were wrong! Be Yourself, Live Your Dream, Soar as You become more and more of who you were created to be. Have an Inspired Day!! Thanks for taking time to inspire us!
