It’s that’s holiday again!
.
The family gathers.
The dog waits for scraps.
The neighbors show up with mashed potatoes.
.
Then you get asked that dreaded question:
.
And what are you thankful for?
.
Well – to tell the truth – you aren’t thankful for much these days.
.
Life has thrown you curve balls and you just don’t even want to talk about it.
.
With all the folks gathered around the table you simply wish you could admit it:
You’re not actually thankful!!
.
You simply wish you could say, “No, thanks to Thankfulness.”
.
.
Trust me – I get it!
.
Life has thrown me some curve balls too.
So much so that it’s a miracle I survived.
.
I understand why saying NO to THANKS is very tempting.
.
Allow me to offer a different point of view however.
.
.
What if saying YES to THANKS – actually takes away the control your circumstances have over you?
.
What if saying YES to THANKS puts you in front of the sound board and gives you the opportunity to re-balance your life?
.
If that were true – would Thankfulness be worth your effort?
.
I decided that it was true.
I decided that it was worth it.
My decisions changed my life.
.
Here’s the science behind it:
.
When you think a negative thought (no matter how tiny) your brain releases cortisol.
.
If enough cortisol is released – it actually kills neurons!!
I saw it happen.
It actually explodes!!!
CRAZY!!!
.
When this cortisol is released your brain shuts down.
.
You lose access to your motivation, awareness, and your ability to logically think and move yourself forward.
If, however, you think a positive grateful thought (even if it’s just an imagination or a dream) then dopamine is released.
.
Dopamine is happy juice. Your brain likes that.
When dopamine is released you nourish your brain.
Your motivational centers light up.
.
You are able to make logical, empowering, forward moving decisions.
Suddenly – you are no longer stuck!
.
.
How do you feel about the possibility of no longer being stuck?
.
I personally like that option.
.
I’m ready to move forward.
.
I’m ready to change my life.
.

Find 3 things for which you can truly be grateful – even if it’s as small as :
.
“I enjoyed that grape that I just ate.”
.
I actually did just eat a grape and did enjoy it.
See – it works just like that. :=)

This sends dopamine to your brain.

Even if you don’t really like the let’s-all-be-thankful-holiday, you can still find a way to say YES to THANKS.

It’ll change your brain chemistry.
