Is Your Value Fleeting?

So many things in life are fleeting:
relationships
finances
employment
even life itself

Allow me to tell you a story today.

There was once a speaker who stood up in front of his audience of about 200 with a 20 dollar bill in his hand and he said, “How many of you would like this 20 dollar bill?”
.

So all kinds of hands got raised. Of course. If I was there I would have raised my hand.
.

So he said, “I’m going to give this 20 dollar bill to one person but first let me do this. And he crumbled it all up and he made it all wrinkly – you know some of the things that happen as we get older maybe.
.

And then he said. “It’s all crinkled up. Who would like this 20 dollar bill now and all the hands got raised still.
.

So he said, “Ok fine. One more thing.”
.

He put it on the ground and made it all dirty with his feet and then he held it up again. And he said, “Who would like this 20 dollar bill?”
.

And, not surprisingly, all the hands continued to be raised.
.

So he said, “We’ve seen a very powerful illustration. This 20 dollar bill – when it got all wrinkled up or when I put it on the floor and got dirt on it from the shoe…
.

He said, “It didn’t change the value of the 20 dollar bill and it didn’t change your desire to have the 20 dollar bill.
.
So this relates to you as a person.
It doesn’t matter what you go through that might cause your physical appearance to change. It doesn’t matter whether you get dumped in life by the love of your life. It doesn’t matter if you have an enormous amount of material possessions or if you happen to lose it all.
.

The circumstances that happen in your life don’t change your intrinsic value. Just like crumbling up and getting dirt all over this 20 dollar bill does not change the fact that it’s still worth 20 dollars.
.

Your value is not based on what happens to you in life or what you gain or don’t gain. Your value is based on who you are.
.

So I would say to us today:
.

Perhaps today’s a great day for us to step aside and examine our own understanding of our intrinsic value. Are we placing our value on the things we have in our life –  or based on who we know – or based on our bank account?
Are we basing our value on our job or our looks?
.

What is it that you are basing your value of yourself on?
.

Now
.

Does any of that really matter?
.

Your intrinsic value is based on who you are and you have been that person your entire life. Nothing that can some into or out of your life. No material possession- no person that comes or leaves – changes the enormous value that you intrinsically have
.

How do you assess yourself today and are you aware of your incredible value that can’t even be matched with a number or your imagination?
.

Are you aware?
.
Because when you come to a point where you actually understand your value, then nothing can take away your peace, your happiness, or your joy.
.

Nothing can take away the ground you have in your current life now and all the way until the end of your days –  cause your value will never decrease – no matter what happens.
