You are NOT fat!

I’ve had the privilege of sharing my fitness journey with the clients I coach for several years now.
.

I’ve noticed a variety of responses from all of us at different times.
.

* Sometimes we begin with a bang and then fade quickly when it gets hard or when there’s an injury.
.
* Sometimes we begin slowly but surprise ourselves a few months later with extraordinary focus.
.
* Sometimes times we are sporadic and therefore so are our results.

.

* Still other times we are amazingly dedicated – each day diligently completing the intended workout without fail.

We do our best.
We forgive the rest.
Our bodies and overall health are transformed – one small step at a time.

 .

As a result of coaching others and examining my own journey, I’ve learned a few principles that make all the difference for our success.
.

Surprisingly, these principles have little to do with our choice of program or nutrition plan.
.

Rather, they have everything to do with how we view ourselves and how we view our bodies.

.

I have 3 Principals to help you on your journey.
.

When you focus on these three things – the rest will fall right into place – even that 6-pack you’re dreaming of.

Tip #1: You are NOT fat!
.

.

You’ve seen and know this message, but it never hurts to emphasize it again.

You have hair. You have toenails. You have a nose.
.

You would never say:
I am hair! I am toenails! I am a nose!

.
You may have some extra fat on your body.

.
Following the same logical pattern:
You HAVE fat.
You ARE NOT fat!

.

If you say, ‘I am fat.’
Your brain will work extra hard to make that come true.
.

Don’t do that.
That’s called self-sabotage.
.
Instead Say:

(in the second person – that’s important for your brain – trust me here)

“[Your Name], You have some fat on your body. It’s perfectly ok. If you want to release it, you can. If not, you’re simply perfect just the way you are.”

 .

Tip #2: Choose Love

I don’t mean choose to love others.
I’m sure you already do that and know to do that.

.

What I mean is: Choose to Love YOU!
This is harder than one would think.
.
Truth is – Unless we love ourselves, we will never be able to fully love others.

.
When we love ourselves, we love our bodies.
.

Our bodies are gifts in which we live out this wonderful thing called life.
.
I exercise because I love my body, not because I dislike it.
.
I exercise because I have the privilege of being the only one who can care for it.

.

I eat well, because I realize that when I eat unhealthy fats, sugar, or processed foods, I am making a choice to poison myself and create a situation where a future diagnosis will be more probable.

.

I love myself and my body.
That’s why I exercise.
Because I love it – not hate it.

 .

Tip #3: Dare to look in the mirror.

I deliberately look at myself in the mirror.
Dare I say it – I take photos too – yes – sometimes nude

(Note to all: NEVER do I ever send them to anyone or back them up on the cloud!
I think we all learned our lesson from the celebrities with that one.)

.
Why do I do such things?

.

* Because I want to know my body for all that it is.

* I want to know and fully accept this magnificent gift.
* I want to resist the urge to turn away from my God-given beautiful curves (which I used to not like).
* I want to accept all the parts – even those that hold more fat than I would prefer.

.

I found that when I started to really look at my body

I began to love it more

As I began to love my body more

I began to love myself more

As I began to love myself more

I began to engage more with the world and become more present

As I began to engage more and become more present

I began to be more grateful

.
And gratefulness – changed my life.

.

It all started because I dared to look into the mirror.

 .

Our fitness journeys have less to do with our particular program and the exact amount of calories and protein to carb ratios than we might think.
.
Our fitness success has everything to do with how we view ourselves and how we view our bodies.

.

Remember:
.

You are not fat
.

Choose love

.

Dare to look in the mirror

.

As we say in our Academy,

“Lead and Love your Body. It’s the only one you’ve got.”
